Transforming Lives at the Deer Ridge Correctional Institution
Good Grief Guidance is very pleased to have established a presence at Deer Ridge Correctional Institution in Madras, Oregon. We volunteer our program weekly at their facility, and have found this to be a very worthwhile and gratifying experience.
The men who bravely step forward to deal with their issues of grief and loss are deeply engaged in the hero’s journey. They are inspirational in their willingness to be vulnerable in a prison setting and are taking responsibility for their actions; they are making every effort to learn how to positively contribute to their well-being and that of their families and communities. Many of them were born in grief; some of them are veterans; most of them have struggled with serious addictions; yet, every one of them sincerely wants to learn how to be better men and how to successfully manage in society once they are released from prison.

These dear men are highly motivated to heal their grief and create better lives for themselves and their loved ones. Through a mentored guidance process, they acknowledge grief as an obstacle to well-being and become empowered to find their own healthy way out of suffering into restoration.
